Being pregnant with twins put a great strain on Allie’s petite body. At seven months pregnant she was put on constant bed rest by her doctor which was not only boring for her but incredibly frustrating.
It was difficult to look after April while being having to stay in bed. Some of the time April would hang out in Allie’s room with her.
But most of the time her care fell into Millie’s hands. And what a handful she had become. Millie spent her time running around after the infant who one minute refused to take her clothes off and then the next refused to get dressed again.
But dinner time was the most challenging. As April was now on solids, she hated being fed by anyone but her mother. Often she would throw her food on the floor or all over Millie, finding the whole thing hilarious.
Millie would spend hours picking up and cleaning up after April. But as best as she tried to reprimand the little girl, just one look at those big brown eyes and Millie melted.
Allie gave birth to a healthy boy and girl twins on a Tuesday morning. She named the little boy Brendan after Tom’s father who had passed away years before.
Brendan was a daddy’s boy from the word go. He laughed constantly from the moment he came out of the womb and Tom was simply enchanted by him. His favourite activity was to be thrown up in the air by his dad. “Who’s a handsome boy,” Tom would coo at his son tossing him high into the air and relishing in his delightful chuckle.
They decided to name the girl Bella after Allie’s own mother who she had not had any contact with in many years but still held fondly in her heart.
In contrast to her twin brother, Bella was a clingy baby and cried the moment her mother left her side.
It was very tough those first few months for Allie. She never slept a full night as Bella would wake up screaming every few hours. She would drag herself from her slumber into the nursery to comfort her weeping daughter.
Brendan was such a deep sleeper that his sister’s screams in the crib next to him never rose him. He just slept on through.
“Mama, mama, mama,” Bella would whimper until Allie would snuggle her and make her smile, bouncing her up and down on one hip whilst trying to keep herself awake.
Once asleep again, Allie would drag herself back to bed only to be woken up a few hours later by Bella’s screams. Sometimes she just gave in and had her sleep in the bed next to her and Tom.
A year after the birth of the twins, April celebrated her birthday. Allie was so exhausted from the demands of three children that they chose to have a more intimate party celebration with just the close family. They all gathered round while April blew out her candles.
As April aged, she developed the daredevil trait. Even though her mother wanted her to keep her brown hair long and girly, April insisted on it being all cut off. “It’s easier to climb trees,” she told her mum.
For her birthday, Allie and Tom bought April a trampoline. And boy did she love it. She was out bouncing on it day and night. Allie could not watch as her death defying spins frightened the life out of her.
“April please get down from there,” she would call out to her daughter from the patio doors. “You’re going to hurt yourself in a minute.”
“Don’t worry mum,” April would scream back from her elevated position. “I’m fine.”
And she was although Allie found herself constantly on edge waiting for something bad to happen.
April and the twins were very close despite their four year age gap. They would often all play together sharing their toys and making up games.
But being the big sister she was, April would often wind her baby brother and sister up. If one of them was playing with a toy she wanted, she would snatch it from their small hands leaving a screaming child in her wake.
Allie knew this game only too well. So when she heard the shrill of a baby cry, she always knew April had something to do with it.
“April Starr, how many times have I told you not to upset your brother or sister. They are much smaller than you. You have to be gentle.”
“Humph,” April would wail but a few minutes later all would be forgotten and they would all be happily playing together again.
Since growing into a child, April had also become a lot closer to her father. They now had more in common and there was nothing April loved more than watching the game on telly with her dad.
They would sit together for hours, normally with Brendan hanging onto Tom’s legs, joking and pulling apart the game. April relished this time she spent with her dad and was always looking for ways to impress him with her football knowledge.
Noticing April’s passion for sports, Allie encouraged Tom to take her to a live football game. April could hardly believe it when her dad told her what they were going to do one Saturday afternoon. She gazed up at her father adoringly and completely dumb struck.
Walking up to the stadium, April was proud as punch to be at her father’s side.
But she was not so thrilled that Millie and Perano had tagged along. The director had been dating Millie for over two years now and their relationship made April feel a bit sick. They were always kissing and hugging each other and April had once overheard Millie tell her mum that he was great in bed, whatever that meant!
After the game, April could not stop jumping up and down. “I want to be a Sports Legend when I grow up,” she buzzed to her father.
“That’s great honey,” Tom replied. “But its hard work and you have to be dedicated.”
“I can do it,” April replied taking her dads hand and skipping home.
Since the twins were born, every celebrity magazine and newspaper were clamouring to get the first pictures of the famous babies. Tom and Allie had refused any interviews or photo requests for as long as they could, but when top mag, OK! offered them $2million, it was too good to turn down. They all dressed in white for the shoot and made sure it was very natural and relaxed for the kids as possible.
Afterwards they donated the $2million to charity and retreated back behind closed doors to ensure their children had the most normal up-bringing they could give them.
Here are some pictures from their shoot:
